Many sources will tell you that furniture should be replaced anywhere from 5-15 years, depending on the type of furnishing. Often, those sources have financial incentives to hold these recommendations. But with 12 million tons of furniture ending up in US landfills each year, there doesn’t seem to be much ethical incentive for this approach.
Manufacturers and even legistlation have created products and laws to restrict an individuals ability to repair an item themselves. Instead, they insist the repairs be made by the original maker at enormous cost or deny the ability to make the repairs altogether. But when you’ve embraced imagination, you can find ways to avoid these limiations.
We use a host of tools and processes that allow us to make necessary repairs to furniture & home decor, as well as many other items. By embracing locally made repairs, we aim to strengthen our community and make some good happen in the world.
